The professional team of journalists, back in 1982, started five-minute radio programme, which later was extended to a 15-minuites Radio show, the seed of the present Hatemalo that has been germinating over the years. Due to the expensive air charge of Radio Nepal and available minimum financial support for the Radio programme production and broadcasting. Hatemalo had switched radio programme from Radio Nepal in August 2002 to local FM radio station. In this scenario, the Hatemalo didn't let the enthusiasm and initiatives of the children wither, and consequently, it approached Sagarmatha F.M. 102.4 (October-2001 to September 2002), albeit its coverage being only within the Kathmandu Valley. Likewise, Koshi F.M., Biratnagar too broadcast street dramas produced by Hatemalo Sanchar. And it approached KATH 97.9 F.M. from where Hatemalo has aired two radio programmes from October 2002 to September 2004. One radio programme is on issue Based Media Advocacy related to children issues and rights- a weekly program and another is against Drug Abuse- a monthly radio programme for children and youth. Currently, a group of promising children and young people run a half-an-hour radio programme in the Metro FM 94.6 every Friday from 18:30-19:00 against drug abuse. In a major development towards strengthening the child-to-child programme, Hatemalo Sanchar on 25th November 2003 set up the Hatemalo Radio form children in cooperation with the Save the Children Norway Nepal. Inauguarated formally by Srhaneshwor Devkota, the Chief District Officer at Lalitpur who is also the chairman of the District Child Welfare Board, the studio is helping children produce radio programmes currently being transmitted by the Metro FM. After the studio set-up, the children have been involved in editing and giving final shape to the programmes themselves.
